The Walls Enclosing

Thirteen years since her last visit, Amal returns from Montréal to Occupied Palestine to visit family. So much has changed, yet so much remains the same. Struggling with her Arabic and unsure whether she fits in her homeland, Amal is embraced by her cousin Hamza, who makes it his mission to make up for lost time. Together, they tour the familiar and the unfamiliar—a corner store, the Hebron Ceramics Factory, and the Apartheid Wall in Bethlehem. Just as Amal starts to feel at home again, reconnecting with her grandmother and motherland, tragedy strikes: Hamza is martyred, and Amal is confronted by the brutality of the Occupation.
